Institute of Informatics, Information Systems and Software Engineering (UISI) has been listed to prominent research institutions of Slovak University of Technology. UISI focuses on domain of informatics and software engineering. In the area, the institute is Slovak pioneer. The proof is both the series of PhD dissertations matured at the institute, and many years of thematic orientation in research to informatics, profiling of study field of informatics, and students’ orientation to software engineering in each of three study levels.

The Institute acts - upon an by the Web Intelligence Consortium - as the Web Intelligence Consortium Slovak Research Centre.

Institute focuses on problem solving in areas of:

  • methods and facilities of software development,
  • collaborative accessibility, analysis and presentation of documents in environment of Internet assisted by modern software tools,
  • information processing in distributed environment of intelligent agents,
  • ontology usage at knowledge gaining.

Research activities are realized in form of projects mainly, among which the most important are international scientific and scientific-technical projects, and international projects of European Union for support of education. These activities have not been only financial source, but even more they have been the opportunities for achieving valuable scientific and pedagogical experiences and knowledge. Therefore strong attention will be given to them even in the future.

Inseparable counterpart of research activities is also the realization of research as a part of graduate and doctoral studies.
