FIIT STU is fundamentally focused on involving students of all three degrees in research activities. This is manifested in the concept of final projects, but also in regular teaching, where the emphasis is on the initiative and creativity of students. From the beginning, students are guided to seek knowledge not only in the usual study literature but also in scientific articles.
Why apply for a research orientation
Already in your Bachelor's degree you can go one step further in a specially conceived research orientation. As a research orientation student, you will have the opportunity to profile yourself scientifically in three seminar-conceived courses that replace the three standard courses. In small groups and under the guidance of experienced researchers, you will practice research methodology and effective publishing in computer science, as well as identify current research topics. Access to faculty research groups, whose seminars you will be able to attend, will also help you in this.
You will begin your undergraduate projects a semester early to allow time for initial exploration of the field and to define your own assignments (in collaboration with your project advisors). Undergraduate projects in the research orientation may be linked to research projects carried out by faculty, and usually result in a scholarly publication at the international level.
Completing this type of study will enable you to better handle the scientific aspects of your thesis project and will create excellent prerequisites for doctoral study, should you be interested. In terms of practice, it will increase your ability to tackle complex innovation-focused tasks that require a high degree of creativity and a non-standard approach, thus increasing your attractiveness on the job market.

Any first year bachelor student can apply for admission to the research orientation. Applications should be submitted on the appropriate form (

The application form must be accompanied by:
- cover letter,
- CV - with a list of relevant activities and achievements (not only in computer science) and possible recommendations,
- a research proposal - a short description of the topic the applicant would like to work on (up to 500 words).
Selected candidates will be invited by the committee to an online interview (expected to take place in mid-June), after which the decision on acceptance will be taken.
